5 GCSEs including English Language and Mathematics at grades 5 - 9.
The following courses are accepted as 1 GCSE entry at Level 2 Merit or above:
- GCSE PE (Grade 5 - 9)
- NCFE Health & Fitness
- OCR Sport Studies
- BTEC Sport Studies
In order to join our football academy, students must demonstrate a sufficient level of football ability combined with a keen interest in sport, health & fitness and football.
Individual course entry requirements also apply.
Course Overview
Our BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport is aimed at students who have a passion for sport and are looking to follow a career in sports performance, coaching, officiating or health & fitness. It is a 2 year course and is equivalent to one A Level. It is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other A Levels or appropriate BTEC Nationals.
This course is ideal for students who enjoy a blend of both theoretical and practical input, covering a variety of topics including Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being, Professional Development in the Sports Industry and Practical Sports Performance. It provides opportunities for learners to showcase their skills through practical assessments as well as underpinning knowledge and skills needed to meet requirements in the sport industry. In addition, the course develops transferable skills such as communication, team working and leadership skills.
Assessment Methods
Overall the course consists of 4 units; 3 mandatory units and 1 optional unit:
- Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology (mandatory – externally assessed)
- Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (mandatory – externally assessed)
- Unit 3 – Professional Development in the Sports Industry (mandatory – internally assessed)
- Unit 7 – Practical Sports Performance (optional – internally assessed)

As part of our QE6 Extras, learners will benefit from a variety of sport, health & fitness opportunities available to them, including:

Additionally, learners will be able to attend regular sports clubs, have access to our sport and fitness facilities and participate in our sports trips, including stadium tours and fixtures.
Progression
Completion of this qualification will give between 16 and 56 UCAS points to gain entry onto an HND/Foundation Degree or BA Degree in Sport e.g. Sports Coaching, Sports Science, Sports Psychology, Sport Business, Sports Therapy or PE Teaching.
Additionally, this course will provide students with pathways into employment within the sports industry and provide professional sports opportunities.
