Course Overview
This course provides an attractive alternative to the traditional A Level for students who prefer to have a more practical element. The fundamental philosophy of this course is that you actively experience the Information and Communication Technology environment.
The use of Information Technology (IT) is now a way of life for everyone. The majority of jobs involve this use of IT either directly or indirectly.
This course will give you a broad idea of how IT is used in different ways within the workplace or elsewhere and the importance of communicating correctly.
Assessment Methods
Overall the course consists of 4 units; 3 mandatory units of which 2 units are externally assessed and 1 optional unit including:
- Information Technology Systems (externally assessed)
- Creating Systems to Manage Information (externally assessed)
- Using Social Media in Business (mandatory – internally assessed)
- Website Development (optional)
QE6 Extras / Co-Curriculum Opportunities
You will be part of the Computing & ICT department which will be very active in organising enrichment activities. You will have the opportunity to participate in various activities throughout the year such as university trips, ‘Technology’ trips to various industries within the country and abroad.
Computing & ICT students are encouraged to take part in taster days, competitions and other trips and activities that are on offer.
Progression
The qualification can also lead to higher education, either a foundation course in a related field or a suitable degree course. Students studying ICT vocational courses have either gone on to university to study a variety of subjects or can take up apprenticeships in a relevant field.
